How to Beat the Slaughtermill in Valor Mortis (Vale of Wrath)

Slaughtermill boss guide: surviving the Vale of Wrath arena, posture discipline against its grind patterns, and the loadout that works.

The Slaughtermill waits in the Vale of Wrath as Valor Mortis's fourth story boss. Community guides document fewer specifics for this fight than for the Sphinx or Lothaire — launch coverage from GameBrief confirms the roster and placement while noting that detailed mechanics exist for only a handful of fights — but the tools that carry the mid-game all apply here.

The Setup

The Vale of Wrath is the chapter where Ignite and Stasis builds come into their own. The Slaughtermill rewards the same discipline the Sphinx taught: posture management, weak-point shooting and patient burn windows.

The Approach

  1. Fire Transmutation remains the reliable damage-over-time backbone; burning enemies are open to finishers.
  2. Keep a firearm round for its windups — the interrupt rule applies to every unblockable in the game.
  3. Stamina discipline decides this fight more than any other in the mid-game: the arena punishes panic dashing, and winded William cannot parry the follow-up.
  4. Clear the runback before you commit — the Vale of Wrath routes are dense, and arriving at half health is how souls are lost.

After the Fight

The Vale of Wrath also holds the Under the Bridge Lantern — cross the bridge from it and the forest path to the Musket begins. The three-weak-point Remnant of the Iron Regiment farming spot is in this chapter too (Under the Bridge variant), so consider a Catalyst farm session here before Chapter 6.
